| Great news! We have just rolled out a brand new feature, allowing members to find other members that are most similar to them!
This is very useful for you if you are looking for other relevant blogLinker members to link to. To-date, this hasn't been so easy as it required doing a search through the main site search box. Now it is easy as it relies only on keywords and takes your own keywords as a starting point. So please ensure you have entered your keywords in your Profile settings as others will not be able to find you easily otherwise. You can also change the keywords you use, in order to get the best possible matches. 'Closeness' is indicated via a percentage next to each result. You can access this tool by logging in and clicking on the FIND MATCHING BLOGS tolbar link. So, get matching people, whether you blog is about fashion, politics, sports or just the news, you can now easily find likeminded others to trade links with. |

| I've had problems recently with the hosting company, which managed to 'drop' the live database for bloglinker. I was furious with them because they didn't have a backup and the database represented about 6 years of data, but to no avail.
After much debate, they managed to find an old version of the database, 3 months out of date. I'm sorry people, but that was the best that could be done. If you signed up in the past couple of months and you cannot log in and the forgotten password tool doesn't recognize you, I'm afraid you were among the accidentally deleted. If you have added links recently and these are no longer there, again, accidentally deleted by the hosting company. Apologies all, I'll be making the backups myself from now on! |

| I have added 10 categories and space for 2 keywords in your profile.
Once a few people have added these details to their profile, I shall incorporate them into the homepage and general browsing. I think this will help in locating interesting blogs to link to. Like it? |
| 20 September '05 8.00 PM GMT. New Picture and Email Address Verification |
| Image URLs in the 'Image Address' field of your Profile are now automatically checked to see if they are:
a) A picture, not a web page (a lot of people making that mistake) b) The right type of file, i.e. gif, png, jpeg, swf c) The right size i.e. less than 100 KB in size.  If any of these checks fail, you get a yellow alert sign which will give you further instructions.
Another check now carried out is of your email address. If it is not verified, a yellow alert appears with a button to send you a verification link in an email. Click the link and you're verified. Easy! The email verification is to counter the effect of spammers who use fake accounts Enlightened? Draconian? I'm listening... |
| 20 September '05 8.00 PM GMT. The Easy Way to Beat blogLinker Spammers |
 I have added direct links to the email alerts you receive when someone links to you on BlogLinker, that make it super-easy to beat spammers. If you don't like the look of the linker simply click one link to hide the entry in your public list. Click another link if you want to delete it from your list altogether or if it's an obvious spam, you can click a link to report the spammer and then the other to delete. Simple!

Yes, I know it's taken 'a while', but I made a few buttons for people to either download or link to. Hope you like them. Took less time than I thought, thanks to Adam Kalsey's Button Maker. (There is another button maker at Luca Zappa *great name!* which is lets you upload your own images).
If you feel like making some BlogLinker buttons yourself, please email me the link to it and I'll probably even host it for you. You like? You hate? Let me know! |
| IMPORTANT UPDATE: 17 September '05 01.25 AM GMT. Removal of Spammers |
| I have recently built some prototype tools that will greatly help in the detection and removal of porn/spam sites on blogLinker and return bL to how it once was. A couple of nights ago I have detected & removed about 400 such sites and thousands of cross-links to other bL members.
Being nice, I emailed each one that I removed and in return I predictably received some nasty emails in the morning! Over the next couple of weeks I will introduce further tools to make BlogLinker a bad place for spammers. Happy? Sad? Indifferent? Should I allow adult sites but kick off the spammers only? Let me know what you think |

| In the spirit of true community, I have handed over policing of blogLinker to you, the members. You can now report abuse by anyone that links to you using the 'Report!' link next to each entry in your Edit List page. If they get more than 30 reports of abuse, they are automatically suspended. This is an ad-hoc number and I shall lower/raise the bar in the light of feedback. Happy hunting! |

| Dear all, please read this important message about why the site is not working...
Over the past couple of years blogLinker has become very popular, thanks to all of you except the porn spammers and their kind. So popular in fact, that the site started causing data traffic server problems. The hosting company offered to upgrade the server. I accepted their offer, but they basically *completely* fudged the move to the new server. I won't bore you with the details, but the low-down is this: I have decided to part ways with the current hosting provider and I am currently half way through moving hosting companies. This will hopefully not take more than a couple of days but it explains why the database is down and the service is crappy. The bad news is that the hosting company deleted the database without informing me or backing up. Clever, I know. Luckily I had taken a backup, although this is 9 days old, but this will have to do for now. I also have the emails of all - even the most recent - members. So those that joined within the last 9 days, will be contacted and asked to re-join.. The good news is that I will be working out a self-policing system to finally get rid of these porn spammers once and for all. Basically, if more than say 20 people hide links to a member, I will automatically suspend that member, simple as that. So members will be forced to think twice before linking to other unrelated members. I can make the threshold more or less; just let me know your thoughts. Also, if you want a forum/messageboard, I can sort that out as well. Basically, just let me know what you want and I'll try and make it happen. | I've just spent the better part of a few hours responding to all the people who wrote to complain about the spammer. Some of the complaints were rude and personal and that can be quite demoralising. This is all very tiring: it's costing me money , I don't carry advertising, I get no thanks, let alone income, it takes up a lot of time (while doing an MBA) and was only supposed to be an experiment in the first place. I'm one of the good guys!
Then spammers come along and hijack the site and I get people threatening me with legal action! I'm wondering if I should really carry on? Is it worth it? I have no money left for this system and it needs investment. Well people, if you are looking for a potential internet goldmine with over 6000 active members and growing rapidly with no marketing budget, whose closest competitor was recently snapped up by Tucows.com, then bloglinker might be it. What started out as an experiment has turned out to work very well - perhaps a little too well! Anyone want to make me an offer? |

| The spammer has been identified. It didn't take long at all. His details will be passed on to US legal authorities and hopefully he will be dragged over hot coals. If not, I will release his name and address to you all - I'm sure you will enjoy sweet revenge...!!! |

| blogLinker was recently spammed by a very inappropriate site. Somebody signed up and spammed lots of user's lists, making a lot of people very annoyed and filling up my inbox with angry mail in the process. Problem now solved - user and all links to and from the account have been removed. If they return, legal advice will be sought on the matter. Sincere apologies to all effected - blogLinker is an open community based on mutual trust - sometimes trust gets abused. |

| You can now ping Weblogs.com directly from blogLinker! That's right, just click the checkbox when making entries to your list and your blog will automatically be submitted to the Weblogs.com "Recently Changed Weblogs" list, thereby further increasing visitors to your blog - and all for free! |

- Categories! Yes, you can now categorize links and display any number of categories. Nice. More details in the 'Get Code' page when you login. - Sorting: alphabetically, by date or randomized. Sweet. - New date formats: UK & US styles, with and without timestamps. - Option to auto-hide links added to your list by others. Huzzah! - List text alignment: left, right & middle. Looks great.
